Would you like dessert tonight?

I am a waitress......again.

I can not express in words how much this pisses me off. I hate waiting tables. I hate the fact that our government seems to feel it's okay to pay third world wages for a pretty demanding job based on the assumption that people will leave a 20% gratuity. I hate having to deal with snotty, overly demanding customers. I hate the fact that I'm expected to share my tips with hosts and hostess that get paid four dollars an hour more than I do, basically for seating people and getting them their drinks.

So, why, you wonder, did I take the job? Because I needed to. Russ's job is slow, really slow and we need the money. Like,"Which bill should we pay today?" need the money. My working isn't something we can afford to wait on any longer. So I'm a waitress....for now.

What this means is you can look forward to many, many posts of me ranting about how much I hate being a waitress. Feel free to tell me to get over myself.

I know what that's like. I'm not a waitress, but I'll be back in retail very soon. I can't even get a job as a waitress or bartender since I have no experience.

I'll say it again: This working for a living thing sucks.

However, I look forward to your posts.

Just get a job working security. It pays ok, not well but it'll get you by, and they'll hire anyone. I swear, I've seen the jokers they hire.

Drive a scraper! That's HUGE money! Or be a flagger! Or go into Corrections - they love to have women work there (some kind of quota or something).

Anyway, I'd totally come and sit in your section and be difficult and then leave an obscenely large tip for your trouble, because that's how I roll. :)

Miss ya!

Aw...my condolences. Seriously. I waited tables for a couple of years and it is stressful. It gets even more shitty when you think about the fact that you're getting paid like $2 and hour and the customers are blaming you for crap the cooks mess up because you're the only person they can point to and bitch at.

Stay strong...hopefully it's just temporary!

I loved and hated waiting tables. At the one place where I got my ass kicked daily, but went home with $2-300 a NIGHT, I loved it.
At the place where the owner/chef thought 45 minutes to an hour for APPETIZERS was o.k, and even though I comped tons of crap to make up for the wait and they still tipped 10% on a regular basis, I pretty much hated every second.

Good luck toots.
How I look at jobs I'd rather not have: Kick ass at it, rule it, make as much $$ as you can at it, if for no other reason than to make up for the fact that you hate it.

Know I've been MIA and that this comment has nothing to do with your posting... but... in case you're interested, our travel blog is up and running while we're away. Peace - IF
